Let us not neglect meeting together . . . but encourage one another
Hebrews 10:25

Social Groups & Small Groups
At First UMC we distinguish between social groups and small groups. Social groups are focused on fellowship and fun, while small groups are more intentional about offering some kind of structured study or spiritual growth component. Both are important as we try to make friends and grown in our faith. Since small groups are unique, more detailed information on this ministry is given below. However, all of our groups are listed at the end of this page to help you find your next step in following Jesus.
The Shape of Small Groups
Small groups at First UMC have four components. First, they offer a time of fellowship in which participants can get to know each other and develop strong friendships. Second, they offer a time of learning to help participants become more mature followers of Jesus. Third, participants join in some form of worship, such as praying for each other. Finally, each small group plans and engages in a service project at least once a quarter.
The Rhythm of Small Groups
Small groups meet weekly and typically follow a six-week rotation. In weeks 1-4, groups have regular meetings that include fellowship, a lesson, and a time of prayer. In week 5, groups share a meal together so participants can simply enjoy each other’s company and have fun. In week 6, groups either plan or carry-out a service project of their choosing. After completing the six-week cycle, it repeats. You can join a group at any point in the cycle. Throughout the year, participants decide together when the group needs to take a break.
Connecting With a Group
While new groups are always starting, below are some gatherings already meeting regularly. We’d love to help you get connected!
Before attending a group, please reach out to Pastor Mark for a quick conversation. He’ll help you find a group that fits your needs and let you know if any are currently full.
